My Working Territory ....
My home base is Kingston and the County of Frontenac, Ontario, Canada, almost equidistant from the important Canadian archival centres in Ottawa, Toronto, and Montreal, and those in Syracuse and Albany, New York.
- My normal 'on-the-ground' personal research area is broadly eastern Ontario, as outlined in the map below. This is essentially the historical Counties of Peterborough; Ontario; Victoria; Kawartha; Muskoka; Haliburton; Durham; Northumberland; Prince Edward; Hastings; Lennox & Addington; Frontenac; Leeds & Grenville; Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry; Lanark; Carleton; Prescott; Russell; and Renfrew. I travel throughout this region of work as necessary.
- Significant 'on-the-ground' research has been undertaken at
- Canada's national archives in Ottawa.
- Ontario's provincial archives in Toronto; and
- all kinds of public and private libaries and archives in places located throughout eastern Ontario, and more broadly throughout the Province of Ontario.
- facilities in all Canadian provinces, and in many states of the United States of America, as different projects have been successfully planned and completed.
- Difficult research issues have been solved while working 'on-the-ground' at public and private local, regional, and national libraries, archives, and other sites in New England and New York, in the United States; England (including the Channel Islands); Scotland; Ireland (both the Republic and Northern); some parts of France; and some parts of pre-unification Germany.
- A strong working knowledge of records from most of the States in Australia, including Tasmania, and New Zealand has been developed. I have less well developed working knowledge of records from Denmark, Finland, Poland, Sweden, and Ukraine, where some recent projects have taken me.
- And, of course, the internet has allowed me to expand my sphere of operation almost globally.
